If going to the dentist is not your favorite thing because you are a nervous patient and frightened about dental treatment sedation can make the process easier to cope with. Oral sedation also helps reduce memory or the sights and smells of the dental surgery.
Inhalation sedation involves breathing in a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen (also known as laughing gas). This makes you feel pleasantly relaxed, however you will be conscious and be able to co-operate with our dentists throughout this process. We will talk softly to you during the procedure, explaining what we are doing and what you will feel. Once the treatment is complete, the effects of the gas mixture are quickly reversed by breathing in pure oxygen. There are no after affects.
Oral sedation can sometimes be administered, either in tablet or medicine form. This type of sedation has a relaxing effect similar to nitrous oxide, but it may last longer.
Here at the Balmoral Dental Centre we aim to make your visit a pleasant experience.
